SUISUN CITY, Calif.– A newborn was in critical but steady condition Tuesday after his teenage dad abandoned him in a Northern California strip-mall car park, police stated.
The dad, Daniel Mitchell, 18, drove into the lot in Suisun City on Monday, got rid of a safety seat holding the 16-day-old young boy, put it on the ground and left, authorities said after seeing monitoring video and talking to witnesses.
2 workers from a barber shop discovered the child car seat sitting unattended, and on closer evaluation they discovered a child in it and called authorities.
Police were able to get the automobile’s license plate from surveillance video and identify Mitchell.
He was involved in a hit-and-run crash and hospitalized later Monday in neighboring Fairfield, and authorities discovered him there and verified he was the daddy.
Cops arrested Mitchell on suspicion of child endangerment, child abandonment, committing a felony while complimentary on bail and misdemeanor possession of suspected cocaine.
The baby was airlifted to a children’s medical facility and remained in important however stable condition.
Cops said they have discovered and talked to the young boy’s mother, however she is ruled out a suspect.
