Cops: Ex-soldier eliminates her service dog while her partner videotapes

(CNN)– A former soldier and her sweetheart are dealing with felony charges after police state she connected her service pet dog to a tree and shot it a number of times in the head while her boyfriend videotaped the act.

Marinna Rollins and Jared Heng were apprehended by sheriff’s deputies in Cumberland County, North Carolina. They’re charged with animal ruthlessness, a felony.

Inning accordance with a police report obtained by CNN affiliate WTVD, the set took the gray-and-white male pit expense named Cami to a wooded location previously this month.

Rollins shot the pet four times, authorities said, and is heard chuckling in the video as she does it.

“It’s been real Cami. I like you. You’re my young puppy. You’re my young puppy however …,” the woman in the video states.

The pet dog belonged to Rollins and was her psychological support animal, Sheriff’s Sgt. Sean Swain told CNN.

In the video, the man– who deputies say is Heng– then asks to shoot the animal.

“I wish to pop him,” the guy states.

The pair is then seen discarding the canine into a shallow grave and draping a sheet over him.

The troubling footage rapidly made its rounds on Facebook.

CNN affiliate WNCN says a buddy of Rollins published the video of the shooting hoping it would get attention and cause some sort of penalty.

Rollins ended at Fort Bragg in January of 2017; Heng is still on active duty there, WNCN said.

Cami was adopted by Rollins back in 2016 from the Cumberland County Animal Shelter. He was understood at the time as Huey.

Both suspects are in the Cumberland County jail. Their bond is set at $25,000 each.
