Deformed mutt is crowned World’s Ugliest Pet

Quasi Modo wins leading honors worldwide’s Ugliest Canine Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair on Friday, June 26, 2015, in Petaluma, Calif. Quasi Modo’s owners, who took a trip from Florida to contend, will certainly get $1,500.

PETALUMA, Calif.– A 10-year-old mutt named Quasi Modo, whose spine birth defects left him a bit hunchbacked, is the winner of this year’s World’s Ugliest Pet dog contest.

The pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix and his owner took the $1,500 reward Friday night, besting 25 other pet dogs contending in the contest that applauds flaw, organizers stated.

Quasi Modo was abandoned at an animal shelter prior to being adopted by a vet in Loxahatchee, Florida, according to his bio published on the contest’s web site.

“My look can be a little disturbing to some (I have had grown men jump on top of their automobiles to get far from me because they believed I was a hyena or Tasmanian devil) once they get to know me I win them over with my bubbly personality,” his bio said.

2 Chinese crested and Chihuahua mixes called Sweepee Rambo and Frodo took the second- and third-place rewards, respectively.

An 8-year-old Chihuahua named Valuable got the “spirit award,” honoring a dog and owner who have conquered challenges and/or are supplying service to the neighborhood. Precious, who is blind in one eye, is trained to keep track of smells associated to low blood sugar level levels and alert her owner, a handicapped veteran, of the problem, her bio said.

The contest, held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California, is in its 27th year.

The canines are scored by a three-judge panel in numerous classifications, including unique or uncommon qualities, character and natural ugliness.
