Las Vegas is understood for its late nights, so it’s suitable the very first home video game in Golden Knights history went to overtime.
Los Angeles Kings forward Brooks Laich scored the game-winning objective only 12 seconds into the extra duration, offering the Kings a 3-2 win at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday night.
The contest was close throughout, with neither team taking more than a one-goal lead at any time.
Cody Eakin started the scoring off, blasting a one-timer into the top of the net to provide the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead only 3:44 into the game.
The Kings tied it 1-1 when Nic Dowd of the Kings had a puck ricochet off his skate, then off the leg of goalie Calvin Pickard and into the web.
The game headed to overtime connected 2-2, but ended rapidly. Golden Knights defender Nate Schmidt had the puck stolen from him behind the net. The Kings took quick advantage when Alex Iafallo passed it to Laich, who put it previous Pickard after 2 shots.
