A male who ‘d allowed his 14-year-old child to live alone and primarily unsupervised, shot and eliminated him Thursday during a fight after he ‘d found him smoking cigarettes marijuana and ditching school, according to a Henderson authorities arrest report.
Wendell Melton, 53, claimed to investigators that the gun had released unintentionally, opposing his account several times, authorities stated.
He’s imprisoned on one count each of murder, child abuse or disregard, and owning a gun by a prohibited person.
Melton leased the apartment or condo for his son, Giovanni, since March, authorities said. The male informed detectives that he allows his kid to live alone since the teen doesn’t get along with the guy’s wife.
The specifics on the living arrangement weren’t completely clear, however detectives determined that the older Melton has only remained at the apartment or condo 6 times, and only two times while his boy existed, authorities said.
According to the male, he showed up to the complex, 950 7 Hills Drive, near Horizon Ridge Parkway, after he learnt Giovanni had actually not showed as much as school, police said. While there, he discovered the teen smoking cigarettes cannabis, he told an operator when he reported the shooting about noon.
The male informed detectives that he ‘d brought the gun, which he wasn’t lawfully enabled to own, due to being afraid of “some of the people” his child associated with, police said.
Throughout the argument, the man told detectives, his child pushed him to the ground, police said. He pulled out the weapon, pointed it at the teen and got up. The teenager passed away at a medical facility soon after.
That’s when he said the teenager assaulted him, triggering him to inadvertently pull the trigger, police said. Investigators noted that he opposed himself throughout his retelling of the story, which evidence did not support his account.
He deals with a count of kid abuse or overlook due to the teen living alone, police said.
