NEW YORK– Don’t expect to see “woman Doritos” on shop shelves. The business behind the cheesy chips stated Tuesday that it’s not developing a line of Doritos designed specifically for ladies, in spite of extensive online speculation that it was.
The phrase “woman Doritos” trended on social media after PepsiCo’s longtime CEO Indra Nooyi stated on a podcast that unlike men, women do not prefer to lick their fingers after consuming a bag of Doritos.
” Ladies would like to do the exact same, but they do not,” Nooyi stated in an interview on the Freakonomics podcast. “They don’t want to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick their fingers kindly and they do not prefer to pour the little damaged pieces and the flavor into their mouth.”
Nooyi, who has run the soda and snack company for more than a years, later on stated the company is “getting ready to release” treats that are “created and packaged differently” for females. “Ladies enjoy to carry a snack in their handbag,” Nooyi stated.
But PepsiCo said the interpretation of her remarks to suggest that female-friendly Doritos remained in the works were “inaccurate.”
” We already have Doritos for females– they’re called Doritos,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
