A Nevada constable states the male who faced the flames at the Burning Guy festival’s signature burning event has actually died.

Pershing County Constable Jerry Allen states the guy ran through a human-chain of security officers at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday during the Guy Burn occasion at the counter-culture celebration.

The constable states the man was saved by firemens and later passed away at the UC Davis healthcare facility burn center in California.

About 70,000 people are going to the art and music event in the Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Reno.

The nine-day occasion culminates with the burning of a towering 40-foot effigy made from wood. Participants have aimed to encounter the flames as a sign of rebirth.

Festival organizers didn’t right away respond when requested for comment.
