Editor’s Note: As Robin Leach invests household time in La Jolla, Calif., after returning from his yearly Italian journeys, numerous of our Strip personalities have advance in his absence to pen their words of knowledge.
We continue today with visitor columns from chef Joseph Parrino of Andiamo Italian Steakhouse at The D Las Vegas downtown, AFAN Executive Director Antioco Carrillo and Las Vegas Company Academy President Max Tappeiner on how our city’s future leaders are being formed. Max also is vice president of operations for the Venetian and Palazzo:
Although I was not born and raised in Las Vegas, this city has actually become my home. I believe in the potential of this city and want to return to the neighborhood. What better method than to aid mold the future management of business through education and mentorship?
Joining Las Vegas Business Academy and ending up being president of the board has actually enabled me to work alongside a few of Las Vegas’ brightest business leaders in our pursuit to offer an unparalleled education for our scholarship students.
Founded by Rino Armeni in 2011, LVBA offers scholarships, including as much as $75,000 in monetary assistance and substantial mentoring, to students interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Company, Hospitality and/or Law at UNLV. After graduation, our students are needed to work in Las Vegas for at least 5 years, keeping the talent we’ve produced in this city.
In addition to the scholarship and studies at UNLV, our receivers also take part in a comprehensive mentorship program with our board members consisted of executives from Las Vegas’ top business including Hakkasan Group, MGM Resorts International, Southern Wine and Spirits, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and dozens of additional, high-profile companies.
The program isn’t like other scholarship programs, and finding those students with the “it” factor is vital. While our selection procedure is tough and extensive, those who show themselves to have talent, knowledge, commitment and motivation will certainly be placed into our program that guarantees their career grows from the minute they finish.
We hold our scholarship students to the highest requirements. Similar to the members that comprise our board, our scholarship recipients have honesty, regard, determination and nerve while showing excellent teamwork and leadership skills. Our scholarship receivers exhibit this in their daily lives. It’s what sets our students apart from the individual alongside them.
Through the last 4 years, we have seen two of our recipients finish from UNLV and start their professions. Matt Sheahan graduated in December with his Master of Business Administration, taking a position as a hospitality analytics supervisor at MGM Resorts International. Tasha Schwikert finished in May with her Juris Doctorate, accepting a position as a judicial law clerk for the Eighth Judicial District of Nevada.
Our present scholarship receivers, Keivan Roebuck and Daven Cameron, will certainly be joined by 5 extra students come the fall 2015 semester. We are pleased that our most recent scholarship recipients, Brooke Luna, Caleb Veggie and Mackenzie Warren, pursing Juris Doctorates; Robert Medina, pursuing a Masters of Company Administration; and Justin Hawkins, pursuing a Masters of Hospitality Administration, will help influence the heritage of this excellent city.
I encourage everybody to see our website LVBANV.org to see how the program might benefit your graduate education or how you might turned into one of our board members and influence the education of Las Vegas’ future business leaders with your competence and understanding.
We also would love to see you at our yearly fundraiser at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 3.
