Nevada moving to expand age kids need to remain in school

LAS VEGAS (AP) –

A dozen states are trying to keep children in school longer, from making kindergarten mandatory to increasing the legal drop-out age. However it’s not a simple sell.

Fans see it as a way to improve accomplishment and bolster having a hard time schools. Challengers say moms and dads ought to deserve to decide when and at what age their children participate in school.

An expense in Nevada that would have required kids to start school at age 5 was consulted with such resistance that it was changed to age 6. Current state law sets the age at 7.

In half the nation, kids do not need to begin school until age 6. The legal dropout age usually is 16.
