New Face: Amy Tongsiri

Las Vegas native and UNLV alumna Amy Tongsiri, ’08 DMD, enjoys her brand-new instructor role at the School of Dental Medicine, and values how much she continues to gain from the university’s varied populations of trainees, personnel, and professors.

Why UNLV?

UNLV is my home and I am a Rebel at heart. I have actually enjoyed fantastic success due to the fact that of UNLV, and I wanted to be a part of the university so I can help others reach and surpass their capacity.

Where did you grow up?

I am a Las Vegas native. I graduated from Palo Verde High School.

What inspired you to get into your field?

I utilized to fear going to the dentist, and I fulfilled many others who felt the very same way. It was that fear that inspired me to sign up with the profession. Dental professionals do fantastic work for their clients, and I wanted to change that fearful understanding. After finishing from dental school, I relocated to Charleston, West Virginia, to begin my very first job as a dental expert. I invested a year there on my own and had to adapt to numerous things including paying expenses, working longer hours, and a living in a different climate. I had a few of the best and worst times of my life throughout that year, but it was an experience I will always remember.

Tell us about someone you admire and why.

There are so many people I admire, all whom have shaped a part of me. Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg is among the people at the top of the list. Her book about ladies in the workforce helped me understand that other individuals felt as I did about stabilizing profession and domesticity. It formed my long-lasting outlook.

Is there an item in your workplace that has significance for you? If so, what is it and why it is significant?

Among my buddies painted a picture for me when I opened my private practice. It reveals 3 kids with various laughing smiles. It embodies my concept of exactly what checking out the dental practitioner needs to be– a happy, fun experience with great deals of smiles and laughs.
