Steve Wynn to pay $422,380 in legal costs in lost defamation claim

. A California judge has ordered gambling establishment magnate Steve Wynn to pay $422,380 in legal costs and costs to the Wall Street hedge fund manager Wynn demanded defamation.

Las week District Judge William H. Orrick decreased the quantity Chanos asked for– $590,699– stating he didn’t offer materials validating exceptionally high hourly-rates for paralegals and the large number of lawyer hours.

A Wynn representative declined to comment.

Orrick dismissed Wynn’s case in March under California’s anti-SLAPP statute that aims to stop lawsuits suppressing complimentary speech. The judge said statements by Chanos about Wynn and Wynn Resorts Ltd. at a UC Berkeley scholastic conference were not defamatory.

Wynn backed a state law this year aimed at weakening Nevada’s anti-SLAPP provisions. Lawmakers passed a watered-down variation maintaining the majority of the exact same securities.
