Ping Pang Pong simply may be Las Vegas’ all-time favorite Chinese dining establishment. The Gold Coast restaurant opened in 2001 however looks like it’s been around a lot longer than that, most likely since owners and operators Karrie and Kevin Wu have actually been serving deliciously authentic cuisine in Vegas for a bit longer, having opened the previous Royal Star restaurant at Venetian in 1999.

The couple still operates Noodle Asia at Venetian and the equally casual Noodle Exchange at Gold Coast, but Ping Pang Pong is the name everybody understands, from faithful locals who pack the place every day to get their dim sum fix, to Las Vegas visitors and Chinese tourists who seek out its live seafood specialties and hard-to-find delicacies like salt-and-pepper frog legs or Taiwanese three cup chicken whenever they remain in town.

Last month, Ping Pang Pong re-opened after a substantial redesign and expansion, now offering seating for 300 guests and a personal banquet room currently in great demand. The task was the current in a series of recent restaurant modifications at Boyd Video gaming properties, including the new steakhouse Cornerstone also at the Gold Coast. However Ping Pang Pong just had to get bigger to get much better– no change in idea or food for this beloved area, which 4 years back was recognized as one of the top Chinese restaurants in the country by Travel + Leisure.

Brand-new touches consist of dark walnut screenwork and wood paneling, 2 genuine foo canine (Chinese guardian lions) sculptures and an apothecary cabinet-style reception table at the entry, and a total rejuvenated environment with vibrant touches of red and amber. The banquet space can host around 100 guests for special occasions or personal parties.

Ping Pang Pong’s popular dim sum menu, served daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and be prepared to wait in line a bit if you go), is everybody’s preferred because it provides innovative seasonal specialties in addition to requirements like shumai shrimp and pork dumplings, har gow shrimp dumplings and cha siu bao steamed pork buns. The mango lobster scallop roll, for instance, integrates those fresh components in crispy fried, panko-tossed rice paper, while the aromatic duck bun features Cantonese-style, five-spice roasted duck with cucumber in a steamed lotus bun.

Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., with familiar favorites like roast duck, kung pao chicken and Yang Chow fried rice meshing with more exotic fare such as Cantonese Princess Chicken with dry scallop and ginger sauce or green tea-flavored Dragon Well shrimp.

Whether it’s daytime dim sum, a family dinner or a late night noodle fix, Ping Pang Pong continues to be a real Vegas food institution, and now it has a more comfy, even regal environment fitting its track record.

Hastert to make First court appearance in hush cash case

In this Oct. 10, 2006, file picture, then House Speaker Dennis Hastert, left, leaves the media after responding to questions about ex-Rep. Mark Foley’s involvement with previous pages at a news conference in Aurora, Ill.

Tuesday, June 9, 2015|12:13 a.m.

CHICAGO– Dennis Hastert is set to appear in court Tuesday for the first time given that an indictment nearly 2 weeks ago alleged the former U.S. Home speaker agreed to pay $3.5 million to somebody from his days as high school teacher not to reveal a secret about past misbehavior by the Illinois Republican.

Leading up to the arraignment in U.S. District Court in Chicago, the 73-year-old hasn’t spoken openly about the allegations that prompted questions about possible sexual abuse by a man as soon as second in line to the U.S. presidency.

The politician-turned-lobbyist is expected to step prior to Judge Thomas M. Durkin and enter a plea to charges that he broke federal banking laws by taking out hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and lied about the hush cash when questioned by the FBI.

When he enters into the court house, Hastert will likely need to stand in a security line, go through metal detectors and after that walk past crowds of press reporters and TV electronic cameras awaiting his arrival.

Hastert’s lead attorney is Washington, D.C.-based attorney Thomas C. Environment-friendly, who has represented customers in the Watergate, Iran-Contra and Whitewater cases; Chicago lawyer John Gallo is likewise on Hastert’s defense team. Steven Block is the lead U.S. prosecutor.

It’s unclear whether district attorneys might shed more light on the secret Hastert apparently looked for to conceal by paying the person the indictment describes as “Individual A.” Prosecutors typically supply an introduction of charges at arraignments and occasionally reveal brand-new details.

An individual acquainted with the accusations told The Associated Press the payments were planned to conceal claims Hastert sexually molested somebody years back. The person talked with the AP on the condition of anonymity since the examination is ongoing.

Defendants most of the times enter not guilty pleas at arraignments, though defense lawyers will certainly occasionally inform judges they are holding plea talks with the united state lawyer’s workplace.

District attorneys have not said if they’ll ask Durkin to recuse himself after election records showed he donated $500 to the “Hastert for Congress” project in 2002, and $1,000 in 2004. The arraignment would provide them the chance to make that request.

If convicted, Hastert faces an optimum five-year prison term on each of the 2 counts.

The indictment says Hastert concurred in 2010 to pay Individual A $3.5 million to “compensate for and hide (Hastert’s) prior misconduct” against that individual; it says he paid $1.7 million prior to federal agents started scrutinizing the transactions.

He presumably began by withdrawing $50,000 at a time and changed course when banks flagged those withdrawals. The indictment states he then started taking cash out in increments of less than $10,000 to skirt reporting rules mostly suggested to prevent money laundering.
