If you already purchased your tickets to this year’s Life Is Gorgeous, you’ll more than happy you did. The Weeknd, Arcade Fire and Florence + the Machine will headline the sixth installation of the Downtown music and arts festival, which returns September 21-23.
The lineup likewise includes Pharell-led hip-hop group N.E.R.D., diverse indie rocker St. Vincent and rapper Travis Scott. DJ Snake, Odesza, Death Taxi for Cutie, Tyler the Creator, Miguel, Blood Orange, Justice, Chvrches, Santigold, Sylvan Esso and others round out the undercard.
“If you look back at the last few lineups, we really aim to cover all categories,” says Craig Nyman, LIB’s head of music and live efficiencies. This year suggested doubling down on that objective and scheduling a few of the greatest artists across the musical spectrum. “We attempt to offer people something for everybody,” adds Nyman. “We acknowledge that fans do like all sorts of music.”
These days, it’s possible to discover somebody who likes the incandescent pop-rock of Florence + the Device– the fest’s very first female-led headliner– but also likes the howling, classic rock tones of Wolfmother and the synthy hooks of Superorganism, both also on this year’s roster. “Music tastes differ and alter,” states Nyman. “When you come to LIB, [our objective is to] make people have that moment where they resemble, ‘Who do I go see next?'”
And while online outlets like Consequence of Noise and UpRoxx have announced that rock is dead following this month’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which supposedly drew little crowds for its guitar-forward acts, Nyman states that’s not part of his state of mind. “We have actually always had a rock part to our festival, starting with The Killers and Kings of Leon. Rock is a leader for us, and it’s not something we’re going to sway from.”
That stated, the lineup is stacked with a few of the very best in hip-hop (Lizzo, anyone?), EDM (RL Grime), indie-folk (Emergency treatment Set) and more– not to point out N.E.R.D.’s first Vegas show considering that the group opened for Kanye West at Red Rock Resort in 2008. And as soon as again, this year’s Life Is Stunning lineup features a local element, with blues-rock trio The Dirty Hooks– who played 2013’s inaugural edition and have been touring with Stone Temple Pilots– rapper Mike Xavier and pop-rock band O Hugely set to representative Las Vegas.
“We have to do with being inclusive, welcoming everybody and encouraging everyone to chase their dreams,” says Nyman. “We desire individuals to come to Downtown Las Vegas and revel and commemorate, but likewise leave sensation motivated and empowered and inspired.”
