Ex-constable Bonaventura tries to have arrest warrant dropped

Instead of turning himself in, former Las Vegas Constable John Bonaventura tried to have his domestic battery arrest warrant dropped Friday, court records show.

Bonaventura’s lawyer, Robert Swimming pool, submitted a motion with the Las Vegas Justice Court late Thursday in hopes of either having the warrant remembered or to grant his client what is called an “O/R walk-through.”

The walk-through, which prevails in misdemeanor cases, would conserve Bonaventura from spending time in a jail cell. Rather, he would be reserved and processed at the Clark County Detention Center then released instantly after.

Nevertheless, Judge Pro-Tem William Jansen did not grant the movement. District attorneys objected, saying they wanted Bonaventura to be present in court prior to that walk-through is granted.

The arrest warrant stems from an April 17 event in which he is charged with domestic battery and threat versus his wife. According to the criminal complaint, Bonaventura got his wife by the arms and shook her violently and afterwards required her to write him a check for $9,500.
