Suspected impaired motorist apprehended in death of Las Vegas bicyclist

Danesmin Solis-Cortes A bicyclist who was struck late last month in the east Las Vegas valley by a believed impaired chauffeur has actually died, Metro Authorities announced today.

Jason Eckert, 44, died on Thursday, five days after being struck by a 2000 Dodge Intrepid driven by Danesmin Solis-Cortes, police said.

Solis-Cortes, 40, was speeding down Indios Opportunity when he blew through a stop sign and struck Eckert, among three bicyclists, at the intersection with Mountain Vista Street, near Stone Highway and Twain Opportunity, authorities said.

The other cyclists, a lady and an 8-year-old child, were not hurt, cops stated.

The automobile continued and smashed into a brick wall, authorities said. On Saturday, the remains of the wall, which were still surrounded by yellow police tape, were spray painted with the message, “Drunk Killed Father.”

It wasn’t immediately clear who vandalized the wall.

Solis-Cortes suffered small injuries and was reserved on a count of DUI after being treated at Sunrise Health center and Medical Center, where Eckert died, police stated.

The suspect, who is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bond, is set up to be charged in court on Thursday, prison logs reveal.

LVMPD bike hit by impaired driver

A Metro authorities bike was struck by a damaged driver early Saturday.

Las Vegas Metro cops stated two bike patrol officers were investigating an accident on Tropicana Avenue simply east of Cameron Street around 2: 30 a.m. Saturday. Two of Metro’s Harley Davidson authorities bikes were parked with their emergency situation lights activated behind a Toyota Camry right alongside the curb in the westbound travel lanes.

A guy driving a Nissan Frontier was west on Tropicana and did not decrease his speed when coming up on scene. The Frontier rear ended among the motorbikes causing it to hit the back of the Camry. A lady was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Camry during the accident.

The driver of the Frontier fled the scene however was later on found by a City traffic officer. The motorist revealed signs of problems and was apprehended for driving under the influence and getting away the scene of a mishap.
