(Source: CNN). (CNN)– This video was taken at Hendry’s Beach as serious weather barreled through Santa Barbara, California. Over at West Beach, it was much of the very same.
” Everybody was shrieking. I might hear people yelling all over the beach. There was a lot of people that were harmed here because of the boats that were flying around.”
Monique Martinez was aiming to return to her car when it began to rain. The storm was moderate in the beginning, then it started to pour.
” This wind storm with hail just tossed me by the beach, all the way dragged me by the boats to the fence where I had to hang on to the fence, and I hardly might hold on, because it was pushing me. There were things flying, kayaks, boats”
She states her niece was injured by a flying item, perhaps a kayak or boat. She was taken to the health center.
” It simply came out of nowhere, it happened within 20 seconds where, all of a sudden, it began raining and then the wind came, flipped over the kayaks and the kayaks just blew 100 feet far from us in the air.”
On the beach, individuals were walking around in a daze; the winds got umbrellas, blankets, and chairs tossed by the storm.
The storm is believed to be a microburst, which is an unexpected localized and effective air current.
Microbursts can act in comparable ways to a twister and can trigger comparable damage.
