By Amir Vera, CNN (CNN)– Constable’s deputies in California were carrying out an area check Wednesday when they came across a big, rectangle-shaped box made from plywood– and discovered three children living near mounds of garbage and human feces. The box was on a residential or commercial property that had neither running water nor electricity and was surrounded by big holes, police said. There were likewise 30 to 40 felines inside a travel trailer and roaming easily, the San Bernardino County Constable’s Department stated. Cops said deputies discovered that three children– age 11, 13 and 14– had been residing in the large plywood box for about 4 years.

Package determined about 20 feet long, 4 feet high and 10 feet wide. The children, police stated, were discovered with “an insufficient amount of food and were living in an inappropriate and hazardous environment. “Kids and Household Service responded and took custody of the kids. The parents, Mona Kirk, 51, and Daniel Panico, 73, were detained on charges of willful ruthlessness to a kid. Their bail was set at $ 100,000. It is unclear whether the couple has an attorney or when they will appear in court.

Cindy Bachman, San Bernardino Sheriff spokesperson, stated Panico was living in the trailer while Kirk was living in the box with the three kids.

Bachman stated the children did not require any medical attention and deputies were not aware of any other abuse.

San Bernardino County Capt. Trevis Newport stated in a tweet that the children were not being held captive in package, but the family was living in a restricted area without running water, electricity or heat.
