Superstar Celine Dion flew a round-trip air travel of 4,800 miles within 12 hours between Boston, where her partner, Rene Angelil, is hospitalized for life-saving cancer treatment, and Las Vegas to meet a pledge to sing with Andrea Bocelli at our 19th Yearly “Power of Love” gala for Keep Memory Alive on Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“I would not let anyone down after making the guarantee,” she informed me in an exclusive backstage interview after her sound-check rehearsal with Andrea minutes after she had actually landed here at McCarran International Airport. “Rene wanted me to be right here. He’s combating and working actually hard. The reality is hard, however we have the ticket to live today. Today, we’re alive, and we’re going all out.”

Celine paid all the expenses of gas and crew for the flight as a contribution to the Cleveland Hair clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health charity event. Her flight was a poignant act of guts and bravery.

On Saturday morning, she was at Rene’s hospital bedside, and he advised her to “go sing your best in Las Vegas.” Mid-afternoon, she landed at McCarran, and a limousine sped her to MGM Grand Garden Arena. She rehearsed in a simple brown-and-white shirt and jean skirt.

At 10 p.m., she was backstage in a classy, black, floor-length dress. Celine chatted with starlet Sharon Stone (“Fundamental Impulse,” “Casino”), who had simply presented Andrea to the 1,500 dinner visitors. Our thanks to Denise Truscello for the intimate photo gallery onstage and backstage at the “Power of Love” gala.

Andrea welcomed her to join him onstage for their duet of “The Prayer.” As they completed the astonishing and extremely psychological song, thousands of increased petals showered on the teary-eyed crowd and stars onstage. Sharon sold Andrea’s 3-year-old child Virginia to him as Celine and he acknowledged the cheers and standing ovation.

After presenting for photos backstage with the Bocelli family and Sharon, Celine altered, and her waiting limo took her back to the jet prepared for takeoff from McCarran. On Sunday early morning after the red-eye flight, she was securely back at Rene’s hospital bedside.

Right here’s our conversation. It was psychological and teary. Sentences didn’t quite get completed, and a few times our hands reached out to reinforce each other.

This reunion with Andrea Bocelli is very special.

It’s been a long time considering that we’ve sung together, however it does not feel like the time passed because it’s unforgettable. I’m not stating this pretentiously. You often create a reunion, a friendship, and it’s unique. You do a great deal of things in show business, you come across a great deal of people, you do lots, as you understand.

But some of the duets are remarkable, and sharing exactly what you like with someone who knows beyond exactly what I do, the classical part of the music, which takes an unique skill who wants to sing with a pop vocalist and who does this so friendly, so professionally.

I felt that singing with him when was a present of life; singing with him again was a benefit– and now our relationship due to the fact that time after time it still takes place.

Did it click immediately today?

Instantly. Like I stated, the time from last time did not pass. That’s special. I informed him, “OK, we have actually got “The Prayer,” and I do not believe we can strike better than that because “The Prayer” is so beautiful.

Everyone in the arena was weeping. You were tearing up.

It’s a remarkable song. Sometimes the meaning of it has more value. Often you think you receive a tune, and in some cases you believe you’re singing a minute that’s going to last forever.

And of course at this minute with Rene’s fight, this is an extremely precious tune with additional meaning?

It is an extremely unique song and valuable. Rene is battling extremely hard, and he’s a trooper. I’m impressed; I’ve always been since I married him. I know he might support and create a career for me, however as my other half and the papa of my children, he’s doinged this a lot more.

And you said he was pleased of you and wanted you to come today.

He desires me to be here. He desires me strong, he wants me back, he wants to see me again. Prior to he goes, he wants me to ensure that …

Is that a truth now?

He’s fighting, he’s battling, and he’s working truly hard.

And you are, too?

Yes. We’re not sleeping, we’re working on the health, we see doctors, we have treatments. It’s tough, the fact is hard, but we have the ticket to live today. We’re not dead; we’re living. Today, we’re alive, and we’re going for it.

And you’re still going all out to resume at Caesars Palace on Aug. 27.

That’s right. Tonight, though, I’m only believing for tonight. I’m living a day at a time, but I’m going to prepare, too, Aug. 27. I cannot wait.

It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be emotional because I understand that the kind of profession and friendship I have actually had with the fans, if I might state, is beyond music. I think they will be there for me.

When the curtain opens, I don’t know how strong I will certainly be that night.

It will be as psychological as you get when vocal singing “Ne Quitte Pas (Do not Leave Me)”?

Most likely.

A long, 6,000-mile, round-trip journey in less than a day. It shows your love for Las Vegas, reveals your love for Andrea, reveals your love for Keep Memory Alive.

And reveals my love for my husband because he wanted me to be right here. That was the very first OKAY for me to come since I would have stuck with him for sure all my life, but he desired me to be here, and due to the fact that I like Andrea, and I think it’s a remarkable benefit.

We can’t thank you enough for coming, and we appreciate you, we love you. You are brave and brave. Kindly give our love to Rene, and tell him he is in our prayers.

Thank you.

Please examine back later on for our report of all the excitement of “Power of Love” with the stars, surprise donations and multimillion-dollar auction.
