One last award program note: How remarkable was Janet Jackson? She was presented the Icon Award by Bruno Mars after a scorching efficiency with an army of dancers and mesmerized the MGM Grand Garden crowd and substantial TV audience with a gorgeous, uplifting speech. I said it after I saw her performance at Mandalay Bay in October and I’ll state it again now: Somebody provide Janet a Vegas residency show immediately.

Actress Leah Remini was also in the area and made the most of her Vegas time by reuniting with her “Dancing with the Stars” partner Tony Dovolani onstage at Chippendales at the Rio, where Dovolani is working as star visitor host through Might 27. Remini, celebrating her sis Nicole’s birthday, had so much fun dancing at the Rio that she returned for a repetition to close the show.
