(Meredith) — A 15-year-old Ohio boy who vanished more than a year ago after witnessing his father’s murder has been discovered alive in a basement, cops said.
Springfield News-Sun. The teen had not been seen since Aug. 21, 2017, 6 days after he witnessed the fatal shooting of his dad, Robert Caldwell. Police said the dad had actually simply won custody of his children before his ex-wife shot and eliminated him.
On the night of his dad’s funeral, Jacob escaped from his grandparent’s house in Sugarcreek Area, inning accordance with WKEF. Investigators discovered the teen at a house 40 miles away on Monday after someone called police with “really reliable” details on his whereabouts.
The 15-year-old remained in health and did not appear to be held versus his will, Sugarcreek Municipality Cops Chief Michael Brown said at an interview Tuesday.
“There was no evidence of him being secured or secured. I think he could have strolled throughout your home if he wanted,” Brown said.
The police chief also stated Jacob stayed quiet when they discovered him and looked like he had not had a hairstyle because he went missing.
“It was our understanding that he was not outside much,” Brown said. “He’s gone a year without school. He’s gone a year without fraternizing friends.”
Jacob is presently being held at the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center on an unruly charge from a previous runaway occurrence, the News-Sun reported.
The 4 adults who may have assisted him disappear could also face charges, Brown stated.
His mother, Tammy Caldwell, remains in jail and faces a prospective capital murder charge in Robert Caldwell’s death.
