Think accused of murdering guy on Facebook kills himself

CLEVELAND (AP)– The male who randomly killed a Cleveland retired person and posted video of the criminal activity on Facebook shot himself to death on Tuesday in Pennsylvania, authorities stated.

Pennsylvania State Police stated Steve Stephens was spotted Tuesday early morning in Erie County, in the state’s northwest corner. Authorities state officers tried to pull Stephens over and, after a short pursuit, he shot and eliminated himself.

He was wanted on an aggravated murder charge in the shooting death of a 74-year-old male who was getting aluminum cans on Sunday after investing Easter with his household.

Stephens, 37, shared a recording on Sunday of himself announcing his strategy to kill somebody, then 2 minutes later published another video of himself shooting and eliminating Godwin, Facebook said. A couple of minutes after that, he went live and admitted, the business stated.

The business said it disabled Stephen’s account within 23 minutes of getting the first report about the video of the deadly shooting and two hours after getting any report.

Officers searched lots of places around Cleveland without finding Stephens or any other victims before expanding the manhunt. Detectives spoke with the suspect on Sunday by cellular phone and tried to encourage him to give up, cops stated.

Within a day, authorities broadened the search across the country and offered a $50,000 benefit for details leading to his capture and prosecution.

Law enforcement officials said on Monday that his cellular phone was last tracked Sunday afternoon in Erie, Pennsylvania, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) east of Cleveland.
