Investigators said hotel gatekeeper called police after the guy became belligerent and refused to leave the bar at downtown Houston’s Hyatt Regency Hotel early Sunday morning. Authorities stated reacting officers discovered a rifle, a shotgun and a handgun in his space, plus ammo.
The 49-year-old man later told detectives he ‘d brought the weapons into his space because he didn’t want them to get taken from his truck, which was parked in the hotel garage, cops representative Victor Senties said.
” At this moment, our detectives do not think there was any type of intent by him to use the weapons or to cause any sort of issue. It appears he was just bringing them in,” Senties said.
He said the male told private investigators he was staying at the hotel to commemorate New Year’s Eve and confessed he ‘d been drinking.
Cops said the guy was apprehended and imprisoned for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing. Senties said a trespassing charge would stem from the fact that the man chose not to leave the hotel when told to do so.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted earlier Sunday that the situation at the hotel had been “consisted of” and authorities weren’t knowledgeable about any particular hazards to the city.
